I Wonder

Driving to church after sending off my Sunday message, my thoughts went to "I WONDER" what I am supposed to write about next week. And there it was, the answer, "I WONDER" was up next on the itinerary. I think back to the early days of my childhood and what a wonderful life it was. It was peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on Wonder Bread, watching the Wonderful World of Disney, and exploring all those rabbit holes with Alice in Wonderland. Then the early teenage years came and I found my first love, a crush on a beautiful lady who was always wonderous and her name was Wonder Woman! The teenage years progressed and before you knew it, I found myself in the boogie wonderland, dancing the nights away.

Real life came on real hard when I reached maturity, and it now had seemed that I was now part of the wondermongers club. The reality came that life can be strange and freakish, far from wonderful to say the least. Was that it for wonderful?  Was it all just a one hit wonder? It's a wonder that I have made it so far since then. Wonder if I chose a different route in life, would it have been wonderful all the way through. You're probably wondering that I don't have a clue about it at all, and you're right, that's why I'm wondering. Yah.

"I WONDER" about everything these days, but don't we all.

Without wonder there would be no human connection and a loss of the capacity for growth and learning. Something beautiful or inexplicable would just be unheard of. Most importantly though, we wouldn't be able to see that we are part of something much bigger. Wonder invites us to be surprised by God's mystery, to let God be big, to half understand Him and to enjoy for a moment how God fills us and this world with beauty, even when the world within looks anything but beautiful. Wonder leaves us feeling more connected rather than alone in this world. Well, I guess it's no wonder why we always wonder.

On the inside, some of us may say that it's not a wonderful life at all as health and financial barriers, trials and tribulations are beaming down on us. But on the outside you can always bank on it. "What A Wonderful World " it is as Louis Armstrong stated. Look around you at God's majestic creation of this world. There are eight wonders of the world, I say eight instead of seven because with wonder, a new one could appear at any time. The newest of the seven wonders being Christ the Redeemer which stands high above the skyline of Rio de Janeiro. You see wonders will never cease while God is always in control. He will always do wonders, hence why they call Him Wonderful Counselor.

So yah, the wonder years cover the whole span of your life. The outside is already covered and the inside could be worked on by maybe just looking at the world through the eyes of the child you once were. Unlike the "Monotones " though, I don't wonder who-oo-ohh,who, wrote the book of love. I already know that it was God. Because of that "I WONDER " about the years beyond the wonder years, the years to come in the wonderful world of heaven with the most wonderful person I have ever known, this time it being on the inside. His heavenly establishment is called wunderbar , but His sheep pronounce it voon- de-bah .Maybe Jesus could be the newest on your count of wonders, after all His Father created wonder to be had by all. I certainly hope you never cease to wonder about Him because you'll never have to wonder about your eternal residence ever again. Unfortunately, many times when I look around though, "I WONDER" who has been saved and who has not. "I WONDER" when there'll be a day when I'll never wonder again. "I WONDER" if on that day if I will know what I wondered about all this time. I’m pretty sure I will because "I WONDER" about God every day and by chance if you're wondering, I'm wondering about you, and when you're going to wonder about Him.

I see trees of green
Red roses too
I see them bloom
For me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Louis Armstrong

Let all creation sing in wonder
Every sea, every creature, every star
You opened up my eyes to wonder
What a vision, what a wonder you are
